NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Experts predict egg prices will remain high this winter as bird flu cases continue to be detected across the nation. According to the Consumer Price Index, the average retail price of eggs has risen 38 percent since last November. It rose eight percent last month alone.

Bird flu continues to impact eggs prices nearly two years after the initial price shock. Now the demand for cage-free eggs is making things harder.

Egg prices have reached a record high in the U.S. and the Iowa Egg Council says bird flu is the biggest reason for the price jump . ISU Extension poultry vet Yuko Sato says the market determines the cost of eggs.
