A Long Island man is accused of slashing a 39-year-old woman with a kitchen knife and punching a 9-year-old girl who attempted to stop the attack.

A man was arrested after he attacked a woman with a kitchen knife in a Long Island home on Tuesday night and then turned the weapon on a 9-year-old girl who attempted to intervene, Nassau County Police said.

A 9-year-old girl was punched in the head and slashed on her hands as she tried to break up a fight that escalated into an attempted murder inside a Long Island home, according to police.
