Los Angeles Police Department officers chased a stolen vehicle driver for about 40 minutes Friday afternoon as the driver raced through mostly surface streets in the Long Beach, Lakewood area. The chase of the Pontiac SUV started in the Wilmington area at East Anaheim Street and Avalon Boulevard.

A man was taken into custody Friday afternoon in Cerritos after he led police on a high-speed pursuit through the Long Beach area.

A man driving an SUV that was reported stolen led authorities on a chase Friday from Wilmington to the Cerritos area, where he stopped the vehicle and tried to run away but was quickly taken into custody.

The Los Angeles Police Department chased a car into Long Beach on Friday. The driver fled through the city on Del Amo Boulevard, sometimes traveling at high speeds and on the wrong side of the roadway.

Police on Friday were pursuing a vehicle believed to be stolen along the Los Angeles coast, authorities confirmed. The L.A. Police Department’s Harbor Division confirmed the pursuit at about 12:20 p.m.
