Born in 1908, she raised four children, ran a family textile factory during World War II, and remained an avid hiker into her 80s.

Yoshitsugu Nagata, an official responsible for elderly policies, confirmed that Itooka breathed her last on 29 December at a care home in Ashiya, Hyogo prefecture, in central Japan.
