The Mountain Fire is largely "buttoned up," Ventura County's fire chief Dustin Gardner said at a news conference Monday evening. Nearly a week after the destructive Mountain Fire destroyed more than a hundred buildings and torched tens of thousands of acres of brush in Ventura County, firefighters are defending their response to the blaze as some residents return to their burnt homes.

Santa Ana winds impacting Ventura County have made the fire more difficult to extinguish, the Fire Department said.
