Thirty years ago, Whitney Houston made history as the first major Western recording artist to perform in the newly unified, post-apartheid nation of South Africa, following President Nelson Mandela’s historic election win.

A new live album by Whitney Houston will be out Friday, following the limited theatrical release of a film commemorating the 30th anniversary of Houston’s three 1994 concerts in South Africa.

"The Concert for a New South Africa (Durban)" was Whitney Houston's first-ever live concert album and an enduring showcase of her vocal power.
