A report states that Kyrie Irving will decline a $43 million player option with the Dallas Mavericks to sign a three-year extension

Dallas Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving made headlines on Tuesday, declining his player option and signing a three-year, $119 million extension. The deal not only locks in the Mavericks' star long-term, but it could also pave the way for the team to make a run at free agent point guard D'Angelo Russell, according to Marc Stein.

Marc Stein reported Wednesday morning that the Mavericks are considered the "leading suitor" for D'Angelo Russell, as Dallas will apparently target the 29-year-old who played with the Lakers and Nets last year.
