Auburn native Daniel Kerstetter, a Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer, died over the weekend from injuries sustained in a crash on I-75 near Detroit. The accident occurred Friday morning when a Ford Explorer hit the median and struck Kerstetter’s patrol vehicle, pushing it into the semi-truck he had pulled over.

The officer in the commercial vehicle enforcement division, struck while conducting a traffic stop Friday in Lincoln Park, donated his organs following the crash and the choice to remove him from live support.

Kerstetter, 45, could not overcome the injuries he sustained in the Friday crash, and his family decided to donate his organs, according to the state police.
