A national bird flu prevention zone has been declared across Scotland and England following an increase in the number of cases among wild birds and other captive birds. The Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) has been announced to minimise the risk of the disease spreading amongst poultry and other captive birds.

A case of avian influenza, also known as bird flu, has been confirmed at a site in Shropshire. The government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) confirmed the case in poultry at a premises near Wem on Monday.

Public health officials in Philadelphia reported the first suspected case of bird flu in the city on Wednesday after a sick goose found in a West Philadelphia neighborhood was positive for the disease in preliminary tests.
