A Houston police officer shot and killed a man after another officer said he was reaching for his gun during an attempted arrest Monday morning in northeast Houston, police said. The man's name wasn't immediately released.

Police said the suspect was breaking into vehicles in the area when some sort of confrontation occurred with responding officers.

According to police, the suspect attempted to grab the officer’s weapon from its holster during the struggle. Just before 8 a.m. Monday, police said officers responded to a report of a man with a "sharp object" who was allegedly slashing tires and breaking windows in the 7300 block of Caddo Street.
