President Trump’s refashioned board of trustees voted him chairman in a meeting Wednesday afternoon. President Deborah Rutter told staff she was departing the institution.

The president solidified his grip on the performing arts complex as the center’s longtime president, Deborah F. Rutter, was fired, two officials at the center said.

President Trump is changing the composition of the Kennedy Center's board — and wants to change the types of performances the center shows.
