J.J. Spaun shot a 5-under-par 65 to move into the lead through three rounds of the Sony Open on Saturday at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Spaun's best score of the tournament puts him at 13-under 197 going to Sunday's final round.

Spaun, who last won at the 2022 Valero Texas Open, was born in Los Angeles and played his college golf at San Diego State University, so his thoughts have been with those from his hometown as the area continues to suffer through wildfires.

J.J. Spaun twice responded to bogeys with birdies in the closing stretch at Waialae, the last one a pitch-and-putt on the par-5 18th that gave him a 5-under 65 and a one-shot lead over Jaeger, Eric Cole (67) and Patrick Fishburn (68).
