The Gay Street Bridge will never reopen to vehicle traffic, Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon announced Feb. 12, saying there is too much damage to the bridge to repair at a reasonable cost.
The bridge is set to reopen to only pedestrians and cyclists in late 2025 or early 2026, due to the severity of the damage discovered in June 2024.
