A viral post from a right-leaning social media user falsely identified a Houston man, notably the husband of a Democratic leader, as the suspect in a politically motivated shooting that left two Minnesota lawmakers dead and two others wounded.

U.S. Capitol Police increased security for Klobuchar and Smith following the attacks, which occurred early Saturday morning. Minnesota's entire congressional delegation, both Republicans and Democrats, released a joint statement condemning the killings.

Another state legislator and his wife were also shot in the predawn hours in brazen attacks that officials called “politically motivated.”
