Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with Chinese President Xi Jinping Tuesday in Beijing as part of a nearly week-long trip intended to strengthen ties between the two nations.

China and Australia will keep open dialogue and look for areas of cooperation despite strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific region, Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday after meeting China's President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Anthony Albanese did not raise concerns about the Darwin Port lease at his meeting with the Chinese President, amid threats that China may retaliate if Australia moves to tear up the contract.
