The forward and defenseman signed one-year contract extensions — with a reported $3 million average annual value each — on Wednesday, Utah Hockey Club announced. Both were pending unrestricted free agents but Utah decided to keep the two veteran, depth players around.

Alex Kerfoot and Ian Cole each signed a one-year contract with the Utah Hockey Club for the 2025-26 season on Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed. Each could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Just two days ahead of the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, the Utah Hockey Club have re-signed forward Alexander Kerfoot and defenceman Ian Cole. During a very busy day in the NHL, Utah signed two contracts late Tuesday night.

The Utah Hockey Club (29-25-11) opens up a three-game northern push tonight against the Seattle Kraken (28-34-4) tonight at Climate Pledge Arena. Utah has earned points in four straight games entering tonight and is just two points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Utah is 16-12-4 on the road.

In the final minutes before the deadline, Utah Hockey Club made a deal most would not have considered. The team cleared out $7.8 million of cap space by trading Shea Weber’s contract and the rights of defenseman Victor Soderstrom and forward Aku Räty to the Chicago Blackhawks for a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The Utah Hockey Club hosts the Anaheim Ducks tonight at the Delta Center for the third and final time. In their first two meetings, the Ducks beat Utah in both and will look for the season sweep tonight.
