Maui Jims and Costas in my opinion are both great sunglasses. I own both of them. The Maui Jims in my opinion are great for everyday and they have a nicer style to them. I just bought a pair of Costas from the New York boat show which are the Man-O-War 580 polarized.

Have Maui Jims for around the house & driving, Costa Del Mars 580 Offshore Blue Mirror for offshore fishing and Smith photo chromatic for fly fishing in the streams (low light). Have not found a one lens for all activities. Kaenon makes a great lens for low light conditions for stream fishing, don't know about offshore lens by them.

I've had Oakleys (way over-rated IMO), Native's which are nice but scratch too easy, Electric which I like and still have a pair of. I've surfed my whole life and surf shops carry better selections of glasses than most any tackle shops.

Dec 21, 2002 · Best glasses I've ever owned. I used to buy the cheapo $15 polarized glasses, but got tired of the scratches and poor lense quality. Took the plunge on the Costas and couldn't be happier. Best part was I paid $119 locally, and most places online sell them for $149 with the blue mirror glass lense. Jeffscout Wilmington, NC.

They hold themselves out as being the best plastic lenses available. The Costa 580's are polarized glass. I have been using glass lenses (Costa's and Raybans) for 30+ years without issue, so I don't buy their hype that glass is too heavy or unsafe. Opinions may differ, but even they don't say they are optically better than glass.
